Queensland Family and Child Commission launches child protection data dashboard

The Queensland Family and Child Commission (QFCC) has launched an online, interactive dashboard to monitor the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Queensland’s child protection system.

The dashboard presents data gathered through the QFCC’s Principle Focus program, which monitors and examines the dynamics and drivers of over-representation. The program analyses annual data around children’s entries and exits to the child protection system and the duration they are in care to understand why over-representation is growing statewide and to identify successful strategies reported at regional levels.

The dashboard increases accountability and transparency in how over-representation is monitored in Queensland, and importantly, it increases the community’s access to information. It includes an in-depth analysis of how the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle is implemented across the child protection system in Queensland, and it presents statewide and regional over-representation data.

The dashboard helps to build a shared understanding, in local contexts, about the dynamics and drivers of over-representation and about what can be done collectively to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
