Event: A Framework for Evaluation in the Human and Community Services Sector

Community organisations conduct evaluations of their services, practice governance, human resource systems, staff training, and other activities as part of their continuous improvement.

The purpose of these evaluations is typically to assess the effectiveness, efficiency and/or appropriateness of an activity.

It is rare that evaluations undertaken as part of everyday business include formal ethical review in the same way as research. Because of this, evaluation findings and recommendations are often not broadly disseminated or published with the same credibility as research because they do not meet publication or dissemination requirements. This limits the ability and capability of the community services sector to pick up innovative developments in service provision, set the research agenda for the government and academic institutes, and readily access funding to effect broader change when efficient service models are identified by an organisation.
