Join the National Children’s Commissioner’s Third Roundtable: Act for Children
ARACY is proud to support National Children’s Commissioner Anne Hollonds in organising the third Act for Children Roundtable on Monday, 21 October.
This instalment of the popular roundtable series will be joined by special guest Bruce Adamson, former Children and Young People’s Commissioner for Scotland.
Bruce will be sharing insights from his six years in office, including key developments in children’s rights in Scotland. He will discuss the incorporation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into Scots law, Scotland’s Children’s Act, and the role of the Scottish Minister for Children and Young People. This is a unique opportunity to engage with Bruce and ask about Scotland’s progress on:
- Incorporation of the UNCRC into Scots law
- Raising the age of criminal responsibility
- The ban on physical punishment
- Removing all children from Scottish prisons (and the challenges surrounding this)
Speakers will also explore how the advocacy community in Scotland achieved these legislative changes and what lessons Australia can learn to transform its child justice system.
