Strengthening Multicultural Queensland program – project funding round opening soon!
Multicultural project funding, previously available under the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program, will now be available under the new Strengthening Multicultural Queensland (SMQ) program.
The 2024‑25 project funding round is opening soon, for projects to be delivered from 1 July 2025.
The SMQ program will support projects that promote intercultural understanding, foster social inclusion and community cohesion, and empower diverse communities. Funding is available under two categories:
- Category 1 – Empowering Multicultural Community Projects
- Provides funding for innovative and strategic projects that address barriers and create opportunities for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds leading to more inclusive, resilient, and cohesive communities.
- One-off funding of up to $100,000 (GST exclusive) is available.
- Projects are to be delivered from 1 July 2025 and can be delivered over a two-year period to 30 June 2027.
- This expands on the previous Economic and Social Participation category to be more flexible in supporting community needs.
- Category 2 – Youth and Community Connection Projects
- Provides funding for innovative projects which break down barriers and increase community access and inclusion for young people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Young people must be involved in the design and delivery of the project.
- One-off funding of up to $100,000 (GST exclusive) is available.
- Projects are to be delivered from 1 July 2025 and can be delivered over a two-year period to 30 June 2027.
