From Awareness to Action: A Discussion Paper from QTWAV & LGBTI Legal Service
Queensland Trans, Women and Allies Voices (QTWAV) is a collaborative network of LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy professionals working across community organisations and Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence (DFSV) services in Queensland. Since January 2022, members from key stakeholder organisations have been meeting regularly to strengthen violence prevention strategies and advance equality.
QTWAV exemplifies several key principles of the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children, including fostering collaboration, building service capacity, and prioritising LGBTIQA+ leadership in addressing violence.
QTWAV, in partnership with the LGBTI Legal Service, hosted an event on 22 November 2024,to officially launch From Awareness to Action, a pivotal discussion paper. This year-long project assesses how LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy Queenslanders have been represented in a decade of government strategies addressing DFSV and gender equality. The paper highlights the need for policy development that prioritises these communities and drives meaningful action on violence prevention and equality.
