Translated information on laws targeting sexual offences against children
New laws around reporting sexual abuse of children commenced in Queensland on 5 July. All adults living in Queensland are now required by law to report sexual offending against a child by another adult police, unless they have a reasonable excuse (find out more in this month’s blog). These laws make it a crime not to report sexual offending against children and, within institutions, not to protect a child from sexual abuse.
Information about these changes is now available in several languages other than English including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Kirundi, Korean, Swahili, Tigrinya, and Vietnamese.
