Translated Census resources for culturally and linguistically diverse communities
In light of the lockdowns in Queensland, the Australian Government’s Census has had to cease all face to face assistance in affected areas including Census Pop-up Hubs and Fill in Form sessions.
As a result, Census organisers are ensuring in-language assistance resources are available to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities by producing in-language video recordings – now available on it’s YouTube channel.
There are two type of recordings – an Information Session and a Fill in Form Session. These sessions have been recorded by Census Inclusive Strategies field officers who are native speakers of languages including Vietnamese, Arabic, Filipino, Dari, Punjabi, Cantonese, Spanish, Hindi, Tibetan, Tamil, Armenian, Nepali, Pashto, Portuguese, Turkish and Swahili.
The Information Session provides general information about the Census, including:
- What is a Census
- Why it is important
- Protecting privacy
- Support available to complete your Census
- A COVID-safe Census
The ‘Fill in Form’ recording is longer as it goes through each question on the Census form and explains how to answer them.
