Review: Vilification and hate crimes laws

In April 2021 the Queensland Parliament announced an inquiry into hate crime and serious vilification.

The inquiry will be conducted by the Parliamentary Legal Affairs and Safety Committee. It will examine the nature and extent of hate crimes and serious vilification in Queensland, and the effectiveness of current laws in responding to hate crimes.

Submissions to the Committee can be made until 12:00pm on Monday, 12 July 2021. Information about the inquiry, including a guide on making a submission, is available on the Queensland Parliament website.

The Queensland Human Rights Commission has also put together a consultation kit about the inquiry. It includes information about the law, tips for making a submission, and how Committees work.
