Portable long service leave for community services workers

Community services workers often experience high rates of insecure employment and struggle to reach a long service leave entitlement. This means that many workers miss out on taking a well-earned break.

This is about to change. From 1 January 2021, Queenslanders working in community services will be eligible for portable long service leave benefits.

Workers will accrue long service leave benefits based on their service to the industry, not the length of time with their employer. Workers can claim paid long service leave after recording seven years of service with QLeave. The scheme will support the industry to attract and retain skilled and experienced workers.
