Institute of Company Directors Australia membership now free

The Institute of Community Directors Australia (ICDA) membership is now free, ensuring that all of Australia’s 600,000-plus community organisations have the opportunity to be supported in their quest to improve their organisations, their communities and our country.

One of the many benefits of becoming a member of ICDA is that ICDA members are eligible for Responsible Person status with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). This eligibility is triggered when members agree to follow ICDA’s Code of Ethics.

Responsible Person status has long been a challenging and costly hurdle for community organisations wanting to be endorsed for deductible gift recipient (DGR) status with the ATO. Historically, organisations have been forced to recruit board members based on ‘Responsible Person’ requirements, rather than selecting individuals based on their skills and experiences. The ICDA believes this is bad for organisations and bad for communities.

Now that ICDA membership is free, community organisations will, for the first time, be able to select board members with the skills and experience required to improve outcomes for their organisations, and those in the communities they serve.
