First annual report on the operation of Queensland’s Human Rights Act 2019

The Queensland Human Rights Commission’s (QHRC) first annual report on the Queensland Human Rights Act 2019 attempts to outline the work done across the state’s public sector in implementing the Act over the 2019-20 financial year, and identifies seven key indicators to measure growth in Queensland’s human rights culture.

From 1 January 2020, obligations to act compatibly with human rights were placed upon the executive, judicial and parliamentary arms of government. Building upon the experiences of Australia’s other human rights jurisdictions, the Queensland parliament extended the breadth of protection to rights to education and to health services, and established access to a complaint conciliation mechanism.

Putting people first is the first of these reports to be published, and was tabled in Queensland Parliament on 9 December. Download the report, or visit the QHRC website for more information.
