Blue Card National Reference System
This year the Queensland Government passed reforms in Parliament that give effect to recommendations made by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and the Queensland Family and Child Commission’s review into the blue card system.
These changes will allow Queensland access to a central database that records adverse interstate working with children check (WWCC) decisions, and establish the capability to allow information sharing with other WWCC agencies in Australia.
The National Reference System is a database established and maintained by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission that records information relating to people who have been issued with an adverse WWCC decision in other participating states and territories across Australia.
These reforms will soon come into effect and will allow Blue Card Services to participate with other jurisdictions in sharing adverse WWCC assessment information.
By working together, we can keep Queensland’s kids safe.
Blue Card Services’ fact sheet, Upcoming changes to the blue card system, provides more information about how these changes will affect blue card holders, applicants and employer organisations.
