Blog: COVID-19 resources in languages other than English

In the constantly changing environment of COVID-19, it is important that everyone in our community can understand what is required of them and what support is available. People from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds may experience extra challenges understanding the latest health advice, the directions about physical distancing and knowing how to access services.

Fortunately there is a range of resources available in languages other than English to support people from non-English speaking backgrounds.

A guide for working with interpreters for community organisations

QCOSS has developed a guide for working with interpreters for community services organisations. The guide provides a brief summary of important considerations for people working in community service organisations who are supporting people with the aid of an interpreter.

The guide includes information on how to know when you should engage an interpreter, things to consider when booking an interpreter and tips for a good interpreted session. There are also links to further information and resources that may be helpful.

Multicultural community assistance during COVID-19

A Whatsapp group has been created by Home Affairs in Queensland for multicultural community leaders to communicate directly with the Department around COVID-19. The purpose is to help explain government announcements, seek multicultural community assistance in sharing messages through your existing channels and directing questions to the National Coordination Mechanism.

To access the group, add the Queensland Home Affairs number (0434 861 883) to the contacts list in your phone and text your name and the name of your community.
