Australian Early Development Census 2021

The fifth Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) data collection will take place from 4 May to 25 June 2021.

The AEDC is a national census of early childhood development, with data collection taking place every three years. The data is a powerful tool for initiating conversations and partnerships across education, health and community services, by revealing how children in each community are developing before they start school, where they are ‘on-track’ and where additional resources and support may be needed.

As a key indicator of early childhood development, the AEDC will also provide a snapshot of how young children have fared throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and inform planning and targeting of resources for recovery.

Resources to support schools with the collection and to inform parents, early childhood educators and communities about the AEDC are available on the Department of Education website and the national AEDC website.
