A more equal Queensland? Findings from QCOSS’ 2021 Living Affordability Report
The QCOSS 2021 Living Affordability Report found that in 2020, temporarily raising the rate on income supplements, JobSeeker and the parenting payment, lifted low-income Queensland households out of poverty and reduced the burden on some emergency relief services. Despite this, additional support was phased out in 2021, pushing many households back into poverty.
These hardships have an impact. Low-income has a significant effect on mental health. In turn, poor mental health and the associated stigma and shame are significant barriers to individuals seeking support.
