MEDIA RELEASE 30 January 2014
Online toolkit prepares community services for business success
A new toolkit is available online for Queensland community service organisations to assess the health of their business and respond to the challenges facing the industry.
The Health and Community Services Workforce Council (Workforce Council), in partnership with National Disability Services (NDS), created the Organisational Development Toolkit to help organisations undertake a critical assessment of their business model and make adjustments to ensure they can continue to meet the needs of Queenslanders.
Workforce Council Executive Director, Wallis Westbrook, said the toolkit was a valuable resource for community service organisations across Queensland who were facing significant change through reforms such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
“We are facing challenging times as traditional models of care are fundamentally changed and Queensland's community services are required to deliver more client-centred and efficient services.
“The rapid pace of change also creates many opportunities as organisations plan for the future, allowing them to better cope with demand and deliver efficient and sustainable services to our communities,” Mr Westbrook said.
The toolkit is just one resource within a Business Development Package, created through the Sector Readiness and Workforce Capacity Initiative with funding from the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services. The package includes a suite of modules and a directory of web-based resources to assist organisations working through the toolkit to reposition their organisation.
NDS Queensland State Manager, Jane Geltch, said the package was designed as a self-assessment process tailored to the unique needs of the Queensland community services industry.
“The package was developed by Queensland community services, for Queensland’s community services.
“Working through the toolkit, modules and resources at your own pace will help you identify where you are now, where you want to be in the future and start planning to get there,” Ms Geltch said.
