Volunteering Queensland has announced two new volunteer programs - Ready Reading and Digital Mentors.
Queensland Ready Reading Program
Reading is a powerful tool to help children grow their vocabulary, language skills and imagination. It helps children to develop life-long skills that will support their future growth and learning.
The Ready Reading program invites parents, carers and community members from across Queensland to volunteer and share their love of reading with children.
Ready Reading volunteers work with individual children, under the direction of the class teacher, to support them to become confident and independent readers.
As a Ready Reading volunteer, you will have the opportunity to make a difference in your local community by supporting children’s reading. To express interest in becoming a Ready Reading volunteer, visit the website.
Volunteers must have a Working with Children blue card in order to volunteer in schools.
Digital technologies are essential drivers of education, employment, social inclusion, connectedness, economic growth and innovation.
There are almost 600,000 Queenslanders that don’t access the internet regularly, because they don’t see the need, lack confidence or knowledge or are concerned about the cost.
The GetOnlineQld program is seeking volunteer Digital Mentors to provide face to face support, either one-on-one or in small groups, to help others learn how to use digital technologies such as smartphones, tablets, computers or laptops. They are looking for ordinary Queenslanders who want to give back to their community. You don’t need to be an IT expert to be part of this project.
