Neighbourhood centres across Queensland are encouraged to apply for a share of $800,000 under the latest round of the Palaszczuk Government’s Thriving Queensland Communities Grants program.
The Thriving Queensland Communities grants are open to government-funded neighbourhood and community centres for projects and equipment.
Minister for Communities Coralee O’Rourke announced the opening of the grants and highlighted how they were helping communities thrive across Queensland.
“Last year, 73 neighbourhood and community centres across Queensland shared in more than $600,000 under the first round of our Thriving Queensland Communities Grants program,” Mrs O’Rourke said.
“The funding helped these centres buy equipment such as computers, build outdoor areas and run projects including computer classes for seniors and youth mentoring groups.
“I’ve seen firsthand how these grants have supported vital projects such as the expansion of the Emergency Food Relief Program at the Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre in Cairns and the creation of additional outdoor community spaces for activities and groups to use at the Caloundra Community Centre.
“The response from the first round of these grants has been overwhelmingly positive, and I would highly recommend neighbourhood and community centres apply for a grant in this latest round of funding.”
Mrs O’Rourke said providing grants for the state’s neighbourhood and community centres was another example of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to creating thriving communities.
“The Palaszczuk Government currently provides funding to 124 neighbourhood and community centres across the state,” she said.
“Our support for these centres is helping us create thriving communities, where people, regardless of their personal circumstances, are able to participate in their communities, be resilient and enjoy social and economic wellbeing.”
