Changes to the treatment of reportable fringe benefits might affect your staff receiving family assistance or youth income support payments.

From 1 January 2017, when calculating eligibility for family assistance and youth income support payments, 100 per cent of reportable fringe benefits will be counted as income, instead of the current 51 per cent.

People who work for certain not for profit organisations will be exempt from this change and will not be affected. Employees who fall into this category need to let the Australian Government Department of Human Services know before 1 January 2017 to avoid a reduction in their Government payments.
