Emergency financial resources, placements and housing, and family, friends and social connections are the three main areas of support sought by young people exiting care, a recently completed examination of data collected from across the Next Step After Care services revealed.
The statewide data has provided valuable insights into outcomes for young people as well as a clearer picture of young people's needs, and universal and regional trends.
In addition, an in-depth, year-long evaluation of the Next Step After Care service began this month. The evaluation aims to provide the sector with a better understanding of how the service is working for young people and develop an evidence base to inform continuous improvement. It will include a survey of key stakeholder groups, focus groups and a client outcomes study. It is due to be completed by December 2017.
