Starting 1 July 2016, anyone who sustains serious personal injuries in a motor vehicle accident will receive necessary and reasonable care and support regardless of fault.

This change is needed as currently, Queensland’s Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is a fault-based scheme, resulting in almost half of all people seriously injured not being eligible to receive compensation.

You can find more information about the scheme on the National Injury Insurance Scheme website.

A Parliamentary Committee Report on the NIIS was handed down on 21 March.
