Chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and some cancers are estimated to be responsible for around 80% of the total burden of disease in Australia. Of course, making lifestyle changes is often easier said than done, and the journey can be challenging.

Queensland Health has developed the Get Healthy service to support people to make these lifestyle changes. The service is based on the highly successful Quitline model which has helped thousands of smokers quit the habit and start leading healthier lives.

The Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service® (Get Healthy Service) is a free service that targets Queenslanders aged 16 years and older who are at risk of chronic disease. The service provides ongoing, personalised telephone and coaching sessions designed to support people make lasting behaviour changes regarding:

  • healthy eating;
  • physical activity; and
  • how to reach and maintain a healthy weight.

Clients and staff are eligible for this service and can register for coaching by calling

13 43 25 84 or visiting gethealthyqld.com.au. Get Healthy coaches will make any further calls at a time that is convenient for the participant.

HSC’s are encouraged to promote the Get Healthy service in public facing areas and there is a range of free promotional materials available such as posters, brochures and frequently asked questions that you can order at the Get Healthy website.
