Funding of $2.5 million is available in 2017-18 under the First Start program for community-based organisations (CBOs) to offer opportunities to young people and disadvantaged job seekers to gain nationally recognised qualifications and 12 months employment by undertaking a traineeship.

First Start is one of seven programs that make up the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. First Start currently provides wage subsidies to local councils and community organisations to employ additional trainees.
