Welcome to Community Door's information portal about health.

On a per capita basis, Queensland has traditionally spent below the average of other states on health until recent years.

Health outcomes are lower in regional areas of Queensland and also affect several disadvantaged groups such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse people, and older people.

Poverty and ill health are clearly linked. Research on the social determinants of health shows that the most disadvantaged in society bear the greatest burden of ill health. That is, the more disadvantaged you are, the more likely you are to have one or more health issues. Equitable access to affordable health care is important for promoting wellbeing and reducing future health care costs.
