Welcome to the Community Door information portal on disability.

Disability touches the lives of many Queenslanders, with close to one in five Queenslanders living with a disability. An estimated 236,200 Queenslanders of all ages have a profound or severe disability. People with a profound or severe disability require assistance in everyday activities, such as self-care, mobility and communication. Providing people with a disability with the support to participate in all domains of life is critical.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will start in Queensland from 1 July 2016 and will be fully implemented by 30 June 2019. The NDIS will transform the way people with disability access disability care and supports, and revolutionise the way disability supports are funded and delivered.

When the roll-out is completed in 2019, around 97,000 Queenslanders with significant or profound disability will have choice and control over the support they receive. The NDIS will also bring exciting opportunities for mainstream services, and the broader community.

In this section you will find current news, resources and other information relevant to people with a disability, family and friends, and those working in the disability sector.
